A home in Mallorca? This is where you should be – 5 idyllic spots according to our local experts

Mallorca has long captured the imagination of those dreaming of a life under the Spanish sun. But the island is much more than just beaches, tapas and tourists. Those who look beyond the beaten paths discover an island full of character, history and villages where life truly feels good. Not just for holidays, but also for those seeking a second home or permanent residence.

Our area managers on Mallorca, Dennis and Nathalie, know the island like the back of their hands. With their local expertise they guide clients every day who want to buy a home in one of the island’s charming towns. In this article we share their selection of five places that are not only among the most beautiful, but also genuinely pleasant to live in.

1. Portocolom – Where tranquility and authenticity meet

A natural bay, colourful fishermen’s cottages, and a historic harbour without high‑rise buildings. Portocolom has that rare charm that immediately moves you. No mass tourism, but restaurants by the water, cliff‑side walks and a slow rhythm that stays with you.

Living here is a conscious choice: for peace, green views and high quality of life.

💬 Dennis: “Portocolom remains a well‑kept secret. Our clients feel at home right away. We offer here, for example, a unique, fully renovated finca with a breathtaking view (Villa Porto Colom).”

2. Cala d’Or – Ibiza vibes in a Mallorcan setting

Modern white villas, a marina with stylish restaurants, and small beaches hidden among rocks. Cala d’Or is a place for indulgence. It evokes Ibiza, but with a more accessible character.

Thanks to its limited scale and architectural cohesion, it's a pleasant place to live even long‑term.

💬 Nathalie: “For those seeking style, security and ambiance, this is perfect. We only have two units available in the stunning Compass – Cala D’Or project.”

3. Colonia de Sant Jordi – Living by the island’s most beautiful beach

This coastal town lies a stone’s throw from Es Trenc, one of Mallorca’s most famous and beautiful beaches: turquoise-blue waters, white sand stretches and a protected natural park as backyard. But Colonia de Sant Jordi is more than that: it has a lively harbour, cosy eateries, and lies next to the salt flats of Ses Salines.

It’s a place offering both tranquillity and recreation. Ideal for those who love walking, cycling and swimming, in a genuine environment without crowds.

💬 Nathalie: “Colonia de Sant Jordi feels so natural. Anyone interested in nature and relaxation will love it. We have several units available in the Allure of Sant Jordi project, still under construction.”

📌 Fun fact: the ferry to the protected island of Cabrera departs from here.

4. Esporles – Green serenity in the heart of the Tramuntana mountains

Prefer mountain views, vineyards and shady lanes? Esporles is the ideal base. This charming village lies in the foothills of the Serra de Tramuntana, the stunning north-western mountain range of Mallorca.

The surroundings offer rugged cliffs, green valleys and numerous walking routes, perfect for nature lovers and solitude seekers. The village itself is authentic, with markets, cafés and stone houses overlooking the hills.

💬 Dennis: “Esporles is ideal for those seeking tranquillity close to Palma. We still offer units in the Es Voltor – Esporles project. If you love nature, this is a real gem.”

5. Colonia de Sant Pere – Unwinding on the north coast

In the north of the island, far from the well-known beaches, lies Colonia de Sant Pere. A small seaside village with a promenade overlooking the imposing Cap de Ferrutx. Here you live among locals, in a modern new-build villa with sea and mountain views.

The atmosphere is village-like, the pace relaxed, and the natural surroundings untouched. Those who find a property here rarely hesitate long.

💬 Dennis: “Colonia de Sant Pere is a hidden gem. You live here among locals, with sea and mountains all around. With some luck there’s still availability in projects like Aura – Artà or Luz de Cala Ratjada.”

📌 For lovers of views: the Cap de Formentor lighthouse is within driving distance and offers one of the island’s most spectacular panoramas.

Mallorca is more than just a holiday destination

Whether you're drawn to a fishing village on the east coast, the tranquillity of the Tramuntana mountains or the creative flair of Cala d’Or, Mallorca offers unmatched diversity in places that truly feel like home. Add the culture, gastronomy and rich history – think Palma with its cathedral La Seu, royal palace Almudaina and vibrant squares – and you'll understand why so many decide to stay.

At NB‑ESTATES we’re here to help you discover these places. With local guidance from Dennis and Nathalie, supported by our team in Belgium, you’re guaranteed a personal approach from A to Z.
