Record Number of Belgians Bought Property in Spain Last Year!

Last year, no less than 4649 Belgians bought a property in Spain. This is according to the latest figures from the Spanish Institute of Statistics. The area around the Costa Blanca with Benidorm remains the most popular.

Spanish property prices have risen slightly over the past year, but this has not deterred Belgians from purchasing a second home in large numbers. This is according to the latest figures from the Spanish National Institute of Statistics. In total, 4649 Belgians or Belgian families bought a property in Spain. This is just higher than the absolute record year of 2022 when 4635 Belgians bought a property in Spain.

“The housing and apartment market in Spain remains extremely popular with Belgians, despite the increased prices which have caused Spaniards to buy less in their own country,” says Carl Vorsselmans from the company Nieuwbouw in Spanje. The man has a good view of the Spanish property market. “We know from figures from previous years that almost half of all Belgians are looking for their place in the province of Alicante, with the top places being Benidorm and Torrevieja, on the Costa Blanca.”

Besides the Alicante region, the Costa Del Sol and Tenerife are the most popular places for Belgians in Spain. “But at some distance. The Costa Blanca has a huge real estate offer and therefore a good price-quality ratio. The area is extremely easy to reach, even by car, and guarantees 300 days of sunshine a year. Moreover, there is the historical presence of Belgians in Benidorm and surroundings. They indeed seek each other out, which is why Belgians mainly settle there.”
